Don Hall grew up in southern West Virginia. He spent much of his free time hiking and camping in the hills and valleys with his friends. Just being outside, listening to the wind blow through the trees, the water rushing in a mountain stream - becoming one with nature - was a beautiful and inspiring experience.
Although he was always interested in art, spending many hours visiting museums and galleries in the Washington, DC area, Don did not begin to paint until he was in his early 30's. He chose oil painting because of the rich, vibrant colors one can get with oils. He began to paint in the studio but gradually wanted more and more to be outside painting. His first experiences painting en plein air in the late 1980's brought back those wonderful memories of communing with nature from his childhood.
Today Don travels widely painting landscapes, from the mid-Atlantic area to New England, southern California, Hawaii and Arizona. He paints almost every day; much of his time is spent painting outdoors, weather permitting. "I want to share the inspiration I feel when I'm painting from nature. To capture that one special moment in time with brush, paint and canvas."
